🧾 Ingredients
For the patties:
- 1 ½ pounds (680g) ground beef (80/20 fat ratio is ideal)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
For assembling:
- 4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche or sesame seed)
- 4 slices American cheese (or cheddar)
- 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Pickle slices
- Onion slices (raw or grilled, optional)
- Ketchup, mustard, and/or mayonnaise
🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the Patties
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce (if using).
- Gently form into 4 equal patties, about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb — this helps prevent the burger from puffing up while cooking.
2. Toast the Buns
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium heat.
- Spread butter on the insides of the buns.
- Toast the buns cut-side down until golden brown (about 1–2 minutes). Set aside.
3. Cook the Patties
- Increase heat to medium-high. Place patties in a hot skillet or grill.
- Cook 3–4 minutes on the first side, without moving them.
- Flip the burgers and add a slice of cheese to each patty.
- Cook another 2–3 minutes for medium doneness. (Adjust timing for rare or well-done.)
- Remove and rest patties for 2 minutes.
4. Assemble the Burgers
On the bottom bun, layer in this order:
- Lettuce
- Tomato slice
- Cheeseburger patty
- Pickles and onions (if using)
- Your favorite condiments
- Top bun
✅ Tips for the Best Cheeseburger:
- Don’t overwork the beef when forming patties — this keeps them tender.
- Use high-quality cheese for better melt and flavor.
- Sear on high heat to get a great crust on the outside of the patty.
- Customize freely with bacon, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or even a fried egg.
